چکیده

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is the most common type of acute leukemia in adults. With current treatment strategies, almost 80% of AML patients (18-60 years) will achieve com‐ plete remission (CR). However, approximately 50% of these patients will experience a re‐ lapse, resulting in a five-year survival rate of only 35%-40% [1]. This implies that despite CR, in these patients a number of cancer cells survive treatment and can grow out to cause a re‐ lapse. Efforts towards development of more sensitive methods to accurately determine CR and detect residual cancer cells are necessary to improve risk-adapted management to even‐ tually prolong overall survival rates.

Effective Dendritic Cell-based Immunotherapeutic Vaccines for Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a type of poor prognosis hematological malignancies characterized by heterogeneous clonal expansion of myeloid progenitors. Leukemic stem cells are thought to form the majority of a cell population in minimal residual diseases (MRDs) which are resistant to current chemotherapeutic regimens and mediate disease relapse. Current therapeutic vaccine strategies have d...

The relation between end of induction minimal residual disease and different risk factors in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia

Background: Malignant disorder with B or T stem cell basis leads to development and continuation of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) due to aggregation of blast cells in bone marrow. The environmental, genetic, and demographic factors may influence the disease relapse. The objective of this study was to assess the relation between end of induction minimal residual disease and different risk f...

A clinically relevant population of leukemic CD34(+)CD38(-) cells in acute myeloid leukemia.

Relapse of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is thought to reflect the failure of current therapies to adequately target leukemia stem cells (LSCs), the rare, resistant cells presumed responsible for maintenance of the leukemia and typically enriched in the CD34(+)CD38(-) cell population. Despite the considerable research on LSCs over the past 2 decades, the clinical significance of these cells rema...

Investigation of Leptin, Leukemia Inhibitory Factor (LIF), and IL-6 Serum Levels in Myeloid Leukemia

Background: Leptin has been implicated in the differentiation and proliferation of hematopoietic cells. Leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) may play an important role, along with Interleukin-6 (IL-6) and granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G- CSF), in the regulation of early hematopoietic stem cells. The aim of the study was to evaluate serum level of leptin, LIF, and IL-6 in myeloid leukemia p...

Two methods for the quantitative analysis of surface antigen expression in acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

The expression of lineage molecules (CD13 and CD33), c-Kit receptor (CD117), CD34, HLA-DR and adhesion molecule CD49d was assessed in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) blast cells from 32 cases, using direct and indirect quantitative cytometric analysis. High correlation (r=0.8) was found between antigen expression intensity values calculated by direct analysis method (ABC) and by indirect analysis ...

Histone deacetylase inhibitor treatment downregulates VLA-4 adhesion in hematopoietic stem cells and acute myeloid leukemia blast cells.

The alpha4beta1 integrin very late activation antigen-4 (VLA-4) is an alpha4 (CD49d)/beta1 (CD29) heterodimer. It plays a key role in the adhesion of both hematopoietic progenitor cells and leukemic blast cells to bone marrow stromal cells which express the vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) or produce fibronectin. VLA-4 expression has been associated with bone-marrow minimal residual d...
